The Unlikely Gardens initiative began in a humble front yard in Trenton, Ontario in 2023. The creator of this initiative is Fina (that’s me!), a gardener who cares about creating pollinator-friendly spaces in unexpected places. My main focus is turning unused front yards into gardens, to increase spaces for pollinators and help neighbourhoods feel more alive.

Most of what I know about gardening I learned from watching my mom throughout my childhood. My mom always had a large vegetable garden that helped feed her family of seven throughout the winters. The rest of my knowledge has come through trial and error, and I am consistently growing my knowledge about the best practices for gardening.

I built my own unlikely garden in the front yard of my first house with my family. My goal is to create more unlikely gardens in the Hastings and Prince Edward County area, through encouragement, consulting, and designing. If you want to learn more about how you can transform an unused space and create an Unlikely Garden, fill out the contact form and I will be in touch with you soon.
